However, with the right stimulation, the immune system can effectively target and destroy cancer cells.<\/p>\n<p>One of the main players in <strong>antitumor immunity<\/strong> is the <strong>cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL)<\/strong>, which recognizes specific <strong>tumor antigens<\/strong>. These antigens include unique <strong>neoantigens<\/strong> from <strong>mutations<\/strong>, <strong>mutated oncogene products<\/strong>, overexpressed normal proteins, and antigens from <strong>oncogenic viruses<\/strong>. These types of antigens are crucial for initiating immune responses, especially through <strong>T cells<\/strong>. Other antigens\u2014such as <strong>oncofetal antigens<\/strong>, altered surface molecules, and differentiation markers\u2014are valuable for diagnostic purposes and serve as targets for <strong>antibody-based therapies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Antibodies<\/strong>, a central tool in cancer immunotherapy, recognize and bind to <strong>tumor-specific antigens<\/strong> on the surface of cancer cells, triggering a cascade of immune responses.
